Spring 2022 Welcome Event

It is very special to be a new student at the University of Georgia, something only a few thousand Bulldogs get to experience each year. But it is a truly unique experience to be one of the approximately 150 spring semester enrollees that began classes this January.

On the afternoon of January 13, the university hosted a New Student Welcome in the Memorial Hall Rotunda just for this group of UGA’s newest students. Attendees enjoyed food, received “DAWGS” t-shirts, took photos with Hairy Dawg, and were formally welcomed by select senior administrators, staff, and fellow students.

A photo of some of the attendees on the Memorial Hall front steps marked the occasion, providing a similar milestone to the annual Super G class photo on Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium each fall. The hope is that the annual spring event grows so that similar photos of these unique cohorts can serve as a reminder to these students that they are an important part of the Bulldog Nation and feel welcome and engaged.

UGA Student Affairs and the department of Student Transitions hosted the first Spring Student Welcome in 2020. Due to campus-wide precautions related to the pandemic, the university was unable to host an event in 2021.

The event is designed for students to gather and feel a sense of UGA pride and celebrate each other, providing these students with a sense of camaraderie as well as serve as an aid in helping them to adjust to UGA. Hopefully, this event serves as the first of many opportunities to support and engage these students and set them up for success at UGA.
