The James G. Stemler Study Abroad Scholarships are awarded to Alpha Lambda Delta members who are pursuing a credit-bearing study abroad program to enhance their academic studies. Originally from Suwanee, GA, Turner is planning to travel to France this upcoming year. “In studying abroad in France and attending the Cannes Film Festival, I am excited to broaden my global knowledge and gain creative insight through films reflecting the various cultural, social, and political states of countries around the world. I want to screen films from as many different countries as possible, and from this, learn about other cultures and ways of life to gain a unique perspective and deeper appreciation for each of them,” she said.
Twenty national scholarships are given each academic year. The awards are named in honor of Dr. James G. Stemler, who served Alpha Lambda Delta’s Board of Directors for more than 14 years. In addition to his dedicated service on the Council, Dr. Stemler was an active chapter advisor for the University of Portland. Dr. Stemler has been a vocal proponent
and promoter of international study. Alpha Lambda Delta recognizes the importance of educational experiences outside of the United States and is committed to helping its membership develop a more global view of the world.
